Our History
Since 1989, we have built and nurtured a reputation for excellent performance and customer service. We take great pride in each of our projects and believe in providing more than just labor, we provide comprehensive lighting solutions and electrical installation.
New Age Electric was founded by J. Alan Pumphrey, an experienced Electrician who had worked on a multitude of commercial projects. Early on in Mr. Pumphrey's electrical career, he gained a passion for quality lighting during a lengthy project at The National Gallery of Art, West Building; in which he worked as an Electrician to install and aim artwork lights to illuminate the priceless master pieces seen by millions of visitors to Washington, D.C. each year.
New Age Electric was founded as Mr. Pumphrey found himself increasingly busy with word of mouth referrals from homeowners who were frustrated from dealing with disorganized residential electrical contractors.
Quickly a Reputation Was Formed
When others fall short, New Age Electric follows through. Our name includes New Age not just for the futuristic lighting tech we install, it’s a new age for exceptional service!
In the early 2000’s Lutron entered the story
We received a client request to replace faulty lighting switches and transformers that controlled very high-wattage cove and accent lighting in a home. We quickly recognized the need to reduce the number of switches the client would have to flip. The conventional solution at the time was a direct parts replacement but this would not have provided simple or centralized lighting control. We could have installed more wiring and contact closures but that would have required much more labor, cutting walls, patching and painting. Lutron to the rescue!
We were able to provide one simple to use RadioRA keypad which replaced the hassle of flipping dozens of switches. Lutron invented RadioRA in 1997 as the first two-way, radio frequency, whole home lighting control system and our first application was an overwhelming success!
Lutron has come a long way from then and now offers RadioRA 3 among their other award-winning lighting systems. We are now installing Lutron tech including dimmers, wireless devices such as smart dimmers, remotes and keypads on nearly every project.
